White's Books Fine Editions

White's Books Fine Editions

Apartment Therapy introduced me yesterday to these beautiful books and I thought they looked so pretty I had to share. They are the Fine Editions series published by White’s Books, the new venture of former Penguin designer David Pearson. The books are classic works of literature and the presentation is really fantastic. Leading artists are commissioned to create wrap-around cover designs, which are then printed onto cloth using brass printing blocks. Other features: elegant typesetting, thick acid-free paper, printed end-pages, and a pretty red ribbon to mark your place.

Susan Porteous – Altered Books

Susan Porteous – Altered Books

I’m so excited to share these images of book artist Susan Porteous’ stunning altered book works. I discovered them a few days ago through The Rag & Bone Blog (they did a great interview with Porteous about her inspiration and techniques). You can see Porteous’ work at exhibitions (there’s a list on her website); in public collections at the Tate Britain‘s Library Collection, the Joan Flasch Artists’ Book Collection at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and UC San Diego’s Mandeville Special Collections Library. Or, if you’re not in the area, ogle to your heart’s content here.
